Lots of people own iPods but are Windows-based computer users instead of using Mac. That can limit your iPods features or comfort of use, so you definitely will need a tool to help you in this regard. XPlay could be what you were looking for. Xplay, developed by Mediafour, a company oriented to produce software for Mac / Windows compatibility purposes, is a piece of software that makes your iPod accessible from Windows Explorer, Windows Media Player and Windows Media Center. XPlay even makes Mac iPods work with Windows, and perhaps more impressively, with iTunes for Windows.
XPlay enables you to easily add music, photos and videos to your iPod (or iPhone) using a variety of methods, and copy them all off, as well. When copying music off your iPod, you can even send it directly to your iTunes or Windows Media Player libraries. In addition, photos can be sent directly to your Windows Media Player library, and videos can be sent directly to your iTunes library.
It doesn't take much to get your iPod working with XPlay. Assuming that you have everything you need, which you will be able to check out later in this review, it is usually very straightforward to get your iPod working with XPlay. All you need to do is following three simple steps:
1. Plug your iPod into the appropriate port on your computer.
2. A drive icon should appear in Windows Explorer. If an iPod drive icon does not appear when you plug your iPod into your computer, see the Troubleshooting section on the application documentation.
3. If XPlay is installed, your iPod is plugged into your computer, and an iPod drive icon has appeared, you are ready to go
Let’s take a look to the system requirements to put this handy tool to work. To use XPlay 3 on your computer, you must have:
• Windows XP (32-bit, Service Pack 2 or newer) or Windows Vista (32-bit, any edition)
• Windows Media Player 11
• 10MB available hard disk storage, plus additional storage for temporary files
XPlay is compatible with all iPod models, though iPhone and iPod touch support is somewhat limited. Some minor features such as XPlay Product Update require Internet access, but this is not essential for basic use of XPlay.
Many types of audio (music, podcasts and audiobooks), video (movies, music videos, TV shows, video podcasts) and image (artwork, photos, screenshots) files are supported. Have in mind that using with Windows Media Center requires Windows Vista.
